The joys of vacationing in the winter. For a while, my boyfriend and I talked about going away and this month the opportunity finally presented itself.
The whole trip came together kinda randomly, but I’m so happy it did. He just started a new job and I‘ve been overwhelmed with school, so this trip couldn’t have come at a better time.
We stayed here at Casa Altamar (not sponsored – though I should be!). It a beautiful beachfront hotel with amazing service. I’m not sure how many guests this hotel can host, but it’s very secluded and can almost feel like you have the entire place to yourself. They have a bunch of stuff you can use to really enjoy the property at no charge. Think canoes, paddle boards, and snorkeling gear. As well as, masseuses and great food. (I definitely suggest renting a car if you stay here, though renting a car in Mexico can be hell)
Every morning we’d wake up as the sun raised and enjoy our breakfast overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Personally, my favorite parts of our trip were the quiet moments when we were just enjoying the moment and each other’s company.
This was actually my first time traveling with my boyfriend, and boy was it a learning lesson. For starters, we spent the first few days mostly disagreeing lol. I think it was because our expectations were so high it took us a while to finally relax.
Once we did that’s when we really started to enjoy ourselves. We ate, we drank, explored, and everything else you’d expect on vacation.
Travel items you need
- Beach bag: I normally take my YSL tote everywhere, but nothing ages leather like the sun. I got this super cute knit beach bag from amazon. Literally the perfect beach bag.
- Pen(s): This might sound like a weird one, but there were multiple times on our vacation where we needed a pen. On the plane, at the airport, various restaurants.
- Sunglasses: I actually wear sunglasses everyday year round. I’m literally obsessed with sunglasses and despise being caught without them. If you’re going somewhere sunny or waking up hungover you’re definitely gonna want to throw these on.
- Travel first aid kit: Between my boyfriend and I are clumsy af. He somehow fell and hurt himself and I think I got a paper cut. Again, during this pandemic you do not wanna be lacking. Especially in a foreign country,
If you’re going on a baecation to Tulum I do suggest Casa Altamar, or something similar where you can fully pay attention to your partner.
