There are days I wake up and feel like my options are limitless, and other days I don’t know how I survived up until this point. As women we go through 100 and 1 emotions within a day. It’s easy to feel isolated when you’re not feeling your best and you may not be able to rely on others to help you work through these though emotions.
I feel like I’m always giving the same advice for almost all my articles, but at the end of the day there’s no possible way to avoid every bad day life has in store. However, if the ultimate goal is a high quality life that comes down to a few fundamental facts: you get out what you put in. If you’re feeling down in the dumps it’s your responsibility to pull yourself out. The sad truth is no one is going to save you from yourself, nor is it anyone’s job. Put yourself and your wellbeing first and everything else will fall into place. However, in the meantime…
Here are 7 things to do when you’re feeling depressed..
#1 – Shower, brush your teeth, and get dressed for the day
If you do nothing else on these days make sure you shower, brush your teeth, and put on some real clothes. There’s plenty of times when I waste the day and stay in bed barely getting up to eat. Usually at the end of a long day of daydreaming and napping I tend to wish I gotten up as opposed to taking the day for granted.
It might seem silly, and you probably don’t feel like it, but it’s the first step you need to take in order to get yourself in the right mindset. As you get your body moving and cleanse your body with water you may start to feel a little better.
#2 – Eat nutritional food
If you’re anything like me on these type of days your breakfast, lunch, and possibly dinner are cookies. That is not the diet of woman of my dreams! And I imagine it’s not the diet of your dream woman either. If you’re loading up on junk food your mind and body won’t have the necessary fuel to do good and function properly. It’s easy to stay in a slump with a poor diet.
I highly suggest meal prepping to stay on track with healthy eating. But on a day like this a peanut butter sandwich is enough to get you by. Out of all the options available to you try your best to choose the healthy ones!

#3 – Get moving
Go outside! *major key*
Get some fresh air or go for a run. I highly recommend exercising, but at the very minimum go outside. I personally find that a walk always makes me feel better. It reminds me there’s a whole world going on outside of my internal turmoil.
Since you’re already dressed from #1 you should be look presentable enough to out in public. I promise after this you can go back to your cave, but I promise you will feel better than you did when you left.
#4 – Talk to someone besides yourself
Just verbalizing your feelings can be extremely therapeutic. I love reaching out to one of my girlfriends for a exercise class or to go out for a drink. I swear having good female friendships are one of God’s greatest gifts.
If no one is available for you to hangout with I suggest using the Hapi or Happy the App (not sponsored). Both cost an hourly rate, but I think they’re great because they give you access to talk to someone. Though most are not certified therapist, however it still remains therapeutic, and have formed many friendships from these apps!

#5 – Listen to some music
Listen to whatever is going to hype you up to feel like the bad bih you are. Whether it’s City Girls or NBA Youngboy. It doesn’t matter. I know some of you are cautious about the music you listen to, but I wouldn’t get too into thought about the lyrics if it’s going to do what it needs to do and HYPE YOU UP!
I swear music is so influential and has the ability to easily sway the mood we’re in. Create a playlist that will remind you that you’re that girl and that you are amazing!
#6 – Write it out
I’ve said this a few times in my posts, but if you don’t have a journal and a planner, then you need to get one asap! I’m constantly advocating for journaling and planning because it really helps you sort through all your thoughts, plans, and goals.
Additionally, if you find yourself being easily overwhelmed it’s a great way to deal with anxiety and stress. By being able to literally see all your emotions or plans then you can better sort them and declutter your mind.
#7 – Do something that makes you happy
For different people this looks like different things. Whether it’s spending time with your family or a getting your nails done. Whatever it is do it!
Life is too short to constantly look at the glass half full or spend an extended period of time not feeling good about your life. Treat yourself! Though unwanted feelings are natural and often times unavoidable it’s so important that you try to manage them as best as you possibly can and do something for YOU!
